Why We Joined Husky Ambassadors: Stories from the Recruitment Chairs

Choosing to become a Husky Ambassador (HA) is about more than leading tours; it’s about finding community, building confidence, and sharing a genuine love for Northeastern. We sat down with our current recruitment chairs to hear about what first drew them to the organization, why they decided to join, and how HA has shaped their college experience.

Abby Coca is a third-year Political Science and International Affairs Student from San Diego, CA, who currently serves as one of the Recruitment Chairs for Husky Ambassadors. Morgan Ats is a fifth-year Bioengineering and Biochemistry major from Bedford, NH, who also serves as Recruitment Chair. Together, Abby and Morgan lead the recruitment process, ensuring that new members feel connected, supported, and inspired to contribute to the Husky Ambassadors community.

Q: What first drew you to Husky Ambassadors?

Abby: “I was first drawn to Husky Ambassadors because of prior experience with being a student representative and tour guide for my high school. I loved the experiences I had with that before college, so I was interested in finding a way to continue. I also did my first NU tour during Early Decision (ED) Welcome Day, and I remember my HA was so enthusiastic and engaging. He had such great interactions with so many guests, and it inspired me to want to foster similar connections.”

Morgan: “I fell in love with Northeastern the second I stepped on campus, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. When I was accepted through ED, I knew I wanted to share my love for the school with others and inspire prospective students to see the campus through my eyes. I have always loved meeting new people, learning about their unique backgrounds, and listening to their stories, so it made HA very intriguing to me.”

Q: What made you decide that HA was something you wanted to be a part of?

Abby: “I eventually decided that HA was definitely for me after speaking with various leaders in the org at both FallFest and the HA Info Sessions. Being able to have individual conversations with very active members of the organization and hear their experiences made me very inspired to join.”

Morgan: “I attended an info session in the fall of my freshman year, and I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of this organization. Everyone was so welcoming and kind, and they made me feel like I was exactly in the right place. It was daunting to be a freshman and feel so far from home in a completely foreign environment, but the community and companionship of the HAs I met made those feelings melt away.”

Q: How has being part of HA shaped your Northeastern experience so far?

Abby: “HA has given me more than I could have ever imagined when I joined. First and foremost, HA has given me my closest friends at Northeastern. This organization fosters such a unique community, and I am so grateful to truly feel like I have found my place on campus within this network. HA has also exposed me to so many other opportunities that NU has to offer, simply by virtue of talking to so many other students with varying experiences, and learning about the ways they have been engaged on campus. It has brought me so many connections and opportunities, and I am truly so grateful to be part of this organization.”

Morgan: “HA has given me the confidence that I never knew I could have, where I can converse with anybody and everybody, and do so in a professional manner. It has helped me network with prospective families, learn how to be a leader, and opened my eyes to the many different walks of life on our campus. Additionally, I have made some of my greatest friends through this organization who have been by my side through every rough patch and uncertainty of my college experience. The community and support that it has provided me has shaped me into a person that I am so proud of, and freshman year me would be astonished at the growth I have achieved these past 4 years.”
