<image:title>Student Blogs - The Ultimate Boston Food Bucket List - Table Mercato</image:title>
<image:caption>Table Mercato’s signature thick-cut focaccia sandwiches went viral for a reason. Tucked away in the back of The North End, this deli boasts a unique menu curated with premium ingredients. The sandwiches are massive, naturally making their price point a bit higher, but I think they’re totally worth it as they often last me two meals. I personally recommend the brie, fig, and prosciutto sandwich, but you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - The Ultimate Boston Food Bucket List - Bovas</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’ve visited Boston before, you’ve probably heard of Modern Pastry and Mike’s Pastry, which have sparked a debate among locals over who makes better cannoli. Though these spots are both great, Bova’s blows them out of the water with its creme brulee cannolis, which are perfectly sized and unique to its bake shop. The fact that Bova’s is open 24 hours also gives it some extra points, as it makes it a great late-night side quest destination. Some people claim that there’s not enough to do in Boston at night, but for my friends and me, Bova’s is the only evening activity we’ll ever need. Once in a while, when it’s not too cold outside and we don’t have to be up early, we all meet up at Ruggles, which is one of the MBTA stops on campus, to take the Orange Line to Bova’s. Having four MBTA train stops on campus has been an amazing resource, as it encourages me to explore the city and make the most of my college years.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - The Ultimate Boston Food Bucket List - Hunan Cuisine</image:title>
<image:caption>Hunan Cuisine is a fan favorite among my friends. Though it’s a sit-down restaurant, the service is quick. Inside the restaurant, you’ll find an environment perfect for groups and family-style dining, meaning you’re likely to try tons of new things. Any of the dumplings or chicken dishes are a solid choice!</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - The Ultimate Boston Food Bucket List - Happy Lamb Hot Pot</image:title>
<image:caption>Though there are many great hot pot restaurants in Chinatown, Happy Lamb holds a special place in my heart. The restaurant's variety of add-in vegetables and meats makes it a great spot for even the pickiest of eaters. My friends and I always choose one spicy broth and one neutral broth to give our meals lots of flavor. If you plan to do the same, just make sure you come with an empty stomach, because this restaurant is all-you-can-eat! My friends and I often find ourselves at Happy Lamb for celebrations, like birthdays and when we have visitors in town. Whenever I’ve been, I’ve somehow run into other Northeastern students; I guess that just goes to show how loved the restaurant is by fellow huskies!</image:caption>

<image:caption>You don’t know “good” mac and cheese until you’ve had it from the cafe in Trident Booksellers. Topped with crumbled Ritz crackers, Trident’s mac and cheese is the perfect comfort food for any day. If nothing else, the cafe’s bookworm ambiance is sure to make you fall in love with this spot. Since it’s so cozy, my friends and I always find ourselves there on snowy days, enjoying cappuccinos to reenergize ourselves after classes.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - The Ultimate Boston Food Bucket List - Hokkaido Ramen Santouka</image:title>
<image:caption>Good ramen with a killer student discount program? Yes, please! This ramen shop is tiny, seating probably a maximum of 15 people inside at a time. Nonetheless, the waitlist often moves quickly, and the food is worth the wait. Once seated, be sure to ask your server about the student discount program; oftentimes, the more friends you bring, the more your meal is discounted! Hokkaido Ramen Santouka is also an amazing pick because it’s a short 15-20 minute walk from campus. Though they have multiple locations in Boston, the one near Newbury Street has my heart because I’ve spent many afternoons there laughing with friends and family.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Nowhere in Boston does sushi like Zuma. Here you’ll find everything from traditional sushi rolls to experimental fusion dishes. Though Zuma’s price point is higher than that of most sushi restaurants, its contemporary take on Japanese cuisine is well worth it. Since it’s such an expensive restaurant, I save it as something to look forward to every semester when I celebrate being done with finals.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I first tried Nud Pob the summer before applying to Northeastern, while in Boston touring colleges. When I say this is my favorite restaurant in the world, I mean it. I recall thinking that the chicken and duck pad see ew alone was enough to convince me about moving coasts for university. Now that I actually go to school in Boston and am a regular at Nud Pob, I take advantage of their stamp card program that lets you earn rewards, which is great for us college students who are constantly on the hunt for cheap eats.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - A Glimpse into Northeastern Life in the Spring - One of the biggest signs that it is officially spring at Northeastern is when the seesaws return to campus and you start spotting little bunnies running around. There are four seesaws that were designed by engineering students at Northeastern, and they have become a fun and unique part of campus life. They are great places to hang out with friends, take pictures, or just enjoy a short break. Each one is located near different academic buildings, which makes them perfect for stepping outside between classes or taking a study break without going too far. Doing work outside is such a refreshing change from being inside all winter. Northeastern has plenty of outdoor tables and seating areas where students can bring their laptops and get work done. When the weather finally gets warm, these tables are almost always filled with students working on assignments, reading, or studying for exams. It feels more productive to sit outside with fresh air and sunlight instead of staying indoors all day, and it makes schoolwork feel a little less stressful. One of my favorite things to do on campus during the spring is sit with my friends on Centennial Common. There are always so many students spread out on the grass doing homework, hanging out, relaxing in hammocks, reading, and playing spike ball. Some students bring blankets or set up hammocks and relax in the sun between classes. It creates a calm and social atmosphere where you can still be productive while also spending time with friends. Centennial really becomes the center of campus life in the spring. Spring also brings outdoor events, activities, and giveaways. Student organizations table around campus and offer free food or small items. One thing about walking around campus in the spring is that it is very easy to find free snacks. It is common to see people handing out Red Bull, Tru Fru, Kraft mac and cheese boxes, Dunkin’ gift cards, and other random treats. These little moments make walking to class more exciting and add to the overall energy of campus.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - A Year in Oakland: Life as an Oakland Student - From that day forward, I would find myself sitting on those chairs or lying down on the grass with my friends doing our International Business homework, reading books, playing spikeball, or even sunbathing. Not many prospective students are aware that the Oakland campus is rich in natural beauty, featuring a hidden farm where students and staff cultivate fresh fruits and vegetables for use in our dining hall, Founders. The campus also boasts over 5,000 trees of 100 different species, all within its 135-acre area. The peacefulness, the natural beauty, and those breathtaking sunset views overlooking the lawn made it one of my favorite spots on campus. Lawn time has become my favorite part of the day: a cherished routine where I can unwind and appreciate just how special this place really is.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - A Year in Oakland: Life as an Oakland Student - Where Passion Meets Community While the natural beauty of the campus drew me in, it was what happened inside the walls of Haas Pavilion, the athletic building, that truly made Oakland feel like home. As a dancer of 17 years, I had been yearning for a studio space to practice in. At Oakland, I found more than I expected: I could book a dance studio at Haas Pavilion whenever I needed it, took free ballet and Pilates classes that Northeastern offered, and ultimately became Co-President of the Northeastern Oakland Dance Company. Though it was a small company of just 7 dancers, we grew incredibly close with the countless rehearsals and classes we took in the studio. I was able to find my group of people through my love and passion for dancing and choreographing. The highlight of it all? Opening for Grammy-nominated artist Kehlani at Spring Fest in Oakland was a moment I still can't quite believe happened.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 7 Activities To Make The Most Of Snow Days In Boston - 1. Visit the MFA The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) is practically on Northeastern’s campus and offers free admission to all Northeastern students. When the weather is betraying your hair and outfit, it’s the perfect place to seek shelter from the wind and cold. Inside the MFA, you’ll find carefully curated paintings, statues, sculptures, and seasonal exhibits. One of the coziest things you can do on a snowy day is bring a good book or a couple of friends to the museum and hang out in an exhibit for a while.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 7 Activities To Make The Most Of Snow Days In Boston - 2. Go on a dumpling crawl in Chinatown When I mentioned I was going on a solo dumpling crawl in Chinatown, my best friend looked at me like I was speaking Greek, but it’s a real thing! A dumpling crawl is when you go to a bunch of different restaurants to try dumplings and perhaps other cuisines, and Chinatown is the perfect place to do it, as it boasts some of the most authentic Chinese food in the state. Plus, Chinatown is super easy to get to from Northeastern because the Orange Line stop at Ruggles is right in the center of campus. My top restaurants are as follows:</image:title>
<image:caption>Best sit-down restaurant: Empire Garden When you first arrive at Empire Garden and go upstairs, you’ll be shocked at how big the restaurant is, considering many Boston restaurants are tiny. Empire Garden stands out as it looks like the inside of a vintage opera house, but with dumpling carts rolling around. Best fusion food: Shojo Shojo offers a modern ambiance and an experimental menu. Though it's not a dumpling, one of my favorite dishes is the Shojonator, which is a burger on a Bao bun. It’s unlike anything else I’ve ever tried in Chinatown. Best quick restaurant: Nan Xiang Express Boston may not have Din Tai Fun, but we have Nan Xiang Express. This spot is a self-service, casual restaurant that offers a nearly identical menu to Din Tai Fun. I highly recommend the cucumber salad, classic shrimp dumplings, and the chicken rice cake dish.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 7 Activities To Make The Most Of Snow Days In Boston - 3. Take a workout class</image:title>
<image:caption>Boston is the city of workout classes. From pilates to boxing, we have it all. One of my favorite ways to feel productive on a chilly day is to take an exercise class and then head to the Marino Recreation Center afterwards to relax in the sauna. If you prefer to stay close to campus, you can even sign up for workout classes at Marino for a more affordable price than independently-owned studios in the city. Northeastern makes it super easy and affordable to take group fitness classes, as you can pay $50 during the fall and spring semesters to access unlimited classes at Marino.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 7 Activities To Make The Most Of Snow Days In Boston - 5. Spend time with sealife at the aquarium</image:title>
<image:caption>The New England Aquarium is one of my favorite places to go to decompress. Something about the sea creatures is so soothing that it makes me forget I’m in the midst of winter. The aquarium offers a $5 student discount, but you can see the seals for free just by being outside the building if you’re not afraid of the cold. I fully believe the aquarium is a worthwhile visit, as you can see animals such as penguins, touch sharks and stingrays, and learn more about ocean conservation. In short, the aquarium is the perfect way to immerse yourself in a summer beach-like atmosphere in the middle of winter.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 7 Activities To Make The Most Of Snow Days In Boston - 6. Ice skate at the Boston Common Frog Pond</image:title>
<image:caption>For just $12, you can ice skate outside at the Boston Common Frog Pond. In my opinion, this is one of the must-do winter activities in Boston, as it makes you feel like you’re the main character in a holiday movie. To make it an even more character-like experience, ice skate at night when the rink is lit up with its festive lights.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - My London Scholars Experience - We all know what life on Northeastern’s Boston campus looks like, but what does life look like when you spend your freshman year of college at Northeastern University London? There was almost too much to love about my life in London. Living in East London, just a block away from Spitalfields Market in the heart of the city, the options were endless. No matter who you are and what you enjoy, there is constantly something new to do or see or try. I particularly loved taking advantage of the wide assortment of restaurants, concerts, and musicals just a short walk or tube ride away from where I lived. For me, a typical day in London would vary at times, but would overall stay pretty standardized. Developing a daily routine was helpful to bring some normalcy to a life I was not yet used to. I would wake up, make breakfast and get myself ready for the day as quickly as possible. In London we lived in private flats, which is traditional university housing in the UK. These include our own kitchens and private bathrooms, which was perfect for me because I have always preferred cooking my own food and having my own room. As a first year, this was a novelty I did not appreciate enough at the time.</image:title>
<image:caption>Then I would begin my twenty-five minute walk to class from my apartment building. I usually would find friends to walk to class with so we could spend the walk catching up on life, but even when I did the walk alone, it didn’t bother me because the views on this walk were unforgettable. To this day, I can’t believe that on my walk to class every day I would just casually pass the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, two of London’s most popular tourist attractions. Not to mention the London campus, located in St. Katherine’s Docs, also has views of the London skyline and Tower Bridge.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - My London Scholars Experience - Having to walk twenty-five minutes to school every day was definitely an adjustment from driving to school every day in high school. But I actually grew to love it. London is an extremely walkable city with an amazing public transportation system; no matter where you are, you can always find public transportation to take you where you need to go. But even better, you can walk everywhere! This made the city so much more accessible then I had ever experienced before, and it made it so much easier to explore every part of the city possible in my free time. Over time, I came to really enjoy my walk to and from campus to get some fresh air and spend some time outside.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - My London Scholars Experience - My favorite class was definitely British Drama and the London Stage. We got to see a ton of cool shows on the West End for class which was an amazing way to explore the city and its culture. For example, we got to go see the play My Neighbor Totoro, and not only was it incredible, but the theatre was located in an area of London I had never been to before. Luckily, it was quite normal for all of my classes to take us on excursions, which meant I got plenty of opportunities to explore the city in and out of the classroom. Truly, being in London was one of the best ways to take advantage of Northeastern’s experiential learning model and it ended up being the way I learn best.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - My London Scholars Experience - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Even on my busy work days, I always loved trying a new restaurant for dinner. With so many options in and around Spitalfields, it was hard to resist eating out, especially when getting food is an excellent excuse to spend some time with friends. But no matter what, after school friendship time was always essential. Our apartment building had a lot of fun spaces to hang with friends including a karaoke room and a rooftop deck with gorgeous views of London. Watching the sun set in ombre oranges every night became the norm, and I miss it every day.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 5 ways to prioritize your health in college - Campus Gyms and Group Fitness</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the most obvious ways to maintain your health in college is through exercise. At Northeastern, we have five gyms, one of which is primarily reserved for student athletes. These gyms offer all the exercise equipment you could ever need to maintain your health. The Marino Recreation Center is one of my favorite gyms on campus because it is the largest and offers amenities such as weight-lifting gear, cardio machines, saunas, an indoor running track, basketball courts, fitness studios, and a rotating rock-climbing machine. These resources are especially helpful in the winter, when it gets cold and exercising outside is too much of an endeavor. In recent years, exercise classes such as pilates and yoga have gained significant popularity among Gen Z. But these classes can be expensive, making them hard for students to access. Hence, one of the perks of being a Husky is that you can take an unlimited number of student-taught classes at our recreation centers after paying a one-time fee of $50 at the start of fall and spring semesters, and an even cheaper fee during summer semesters. These classes include workouts like boxing, cycling, yoga, and pilates, and are just as challenging as any other studio, but at a much lower cost. The classes are mostly student-taught, which allows aspiring fitness instructors to build their resumes and get paid to work out. Plus, group fitness classes can be a great way to hold yourself accountable on your fitness journey, as your workout buddies can help motivate you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 5 ways to prioritize your health in college - Athletic Involvement</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’re someone who is naturally sporty, Northeastern has many community-based sports teams that would be perfect for you. We have 19 Division 1 sports, 64 club sports, and tons of intramural-level sports that are all worth checking out. These teams can be an excellent way to stay in shape and meet individuals with shared passions. All of these team categories target individuals with varying levels of experience and commitment, so you’re almost guaranteed to find a group that fits your needs. Plus, they can be a great way to get rooted, especially if you’re new to campus.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 5 ways to prioritize your health in college - Healthy Dining Options</image:title>
<image:caption>As someone with a limited diet, you’d think it would be hard to find food in the dining hall, but not at Northeastern. We have four dining halls, all of which offer diverse food options from different cultural backgrounds and food groups. Sometimes navigating the dining hall can be challenging when you’re trying to maintain a diet, so I always recommend finding a few dishes you truly enjoy to lean on when you don’t feel like being adventurous with your eating. Consulting the dining hall menus online before you arrive can also be helpful if you like planning your meals in advance. When it comes to healthy eating in the dining hall, I’ve always loved the grilled chicken station and salad bar, as these options are great for hitting your protein goals and getting enough vitamins. The omelet bars at our dining hall are also a great pick because eggs are a great source of protein and can be cooked in countless ways.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - Sorority Life at Northeastern University - I also was very involved in an FSL event called Take it to the Floor, also known as Greek Sing, which is a dance and fundraising competition between sorority and fraternity teams that occurs every semester. All of the fundraising efforts were donated to a local organization in the Boston area, and just last Spring we raised over $79,000. In this competition, every sorority gets paired with another organization, typically a fraternity, and each team performs a six minute long dance and skit routine. While this sounds quite silly (and it certainly is), teams take this even more seriously than you’d think. We practice three to four times a week in classrooms and dance studios around campus.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - Finding Home on Campus: My Northeastern Apartment Experience - I am nineteen years old, living on campus in a Northeastern apartment with my five best friends that has breathtaking views of Boston. I have endless appreciation for our Sunday night dinners, when we all take turns cooking in the spacious kitchen and eating together to reflect on our weeks. It has become one of my favorite traditions – the laughter, the shared stories, and the feeling of home it creates. I also love coming home after a long day of classes, work, and clubs to find my roommates all talking in the living room, watching Dance Moms for the hundredth time. No matter how busy our schedules get, we always find moments to slow down and just enjoy being together. During the day, I love sitting by the window and watching everyone walk by, trying to spot my friends from the second-to-top floor of our building. There truly is no better college experience than the one I am living right now, and I owe that to Northeastern’s on-campus housing.</image:title>
<image:caption>As an upperclassman at Northeastern, one of the best decisions I made was to live in an on-campus apartment. When students become upperclassmen, they have the option to live in campus housing with a roommate group of their choice. Each student receives a randomly assigned lottery number that determines when they get to pick their apartment. While there are countless beautiful options to choose from, my roommates and I decided on an apartment on the West side of campus on the fifth floor – and it couldn’t have been a better fit. The apartment has three spacious double rooms that each come with desks, dressers, and a closet for every resident. There are also two full bathrooms with sinks in the middle, which makes getting ready in the morning surprisingly easy. The kitchen is one of my favorite parts. It's equipped with an oven, stove, refrigerator, and plenty of cabinet space, perfect for cooking dinners together or making late-night snacks. The living room comes furnished with a couch, two chairs, and a coffee table, making it the perfect place to hangout with each other and relax. There is also a dining room table with six chairs and a lot of open space.</image:caption>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 5 Things I wish I knew before studying abroad as a freshman - I didn’t start my college years loading posters, bed sheets, and clothes in the back of a car like most freshmen. Instead, I started college playing a game of Tetris with my clothes as I tried to figure out how to pack my entire life into two suitcases. After all, students are quite limited on how much they can bring when they move abroad. I did not have a traditional start to my college experience, and I would not have wanted it any other way. When I decided to study abroad at The American University of Paris under the N.U.in program during my first semester of college at Northeastern, I quickly realized that while it was a new and exciting experience, it was not always going to be easy. Hence, I compiled a list of the top five things I wish I knew before studying abroad.</image:title>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/61a2aaea54eb4f7e82945470/9f32dda9-28f6-48ba-8500-8db66d698c8e/unnamed+%281%29.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Student Blogs - 5 Things I wish I knew before studying abroad as a freshman - 2. Make local friends Making local friends is not always an easy thing to do when you are living in a new place, but I would argue it is one of the best things you can do for yourself. By making local friends, you not only add to your roster of people to have fun with, but you also learn more about the culture, language, and hidden gems of the place you’re studying abroad in. One of the best ways to do this is through volunteering. It was through volunteering at a local nursery that I made one of my closest friends, who I still keep in touch with to this day. She showed me the best restaurants in Paris that are off the beaten path. She also taught me more about Parisian etiquette, which helped me immerse myself in the culture. I learned that it is not acceptable to go out wearing pajamas with wet hair like college students normally do on American campuses. I also learned that eating in public can be viewed as rude, so I stopped walking to class with a bagel in hand and ate breakfast before leaving for class instead.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - 5 Things I wish I knew before studying abroad as a freshman - 4. Pack lighter than you think you should You don’t need to pack absolutely everything you own to study abroad. While studying abroad, you are likely to find new clothes, trinkets, and other goods that you love. When packing to study abroad, pack only the essentials and your favorite things. I can almost guarantee that you’ll need the extra space in your luggage for when you return home. 5. Reverse culture shock also exists Just like how culture shock hits when you arrive in a new place, reverse culture shock also exists. It’s important to give yourself grace when you return home after studying abroad. It can be an adjustment, as you’ll have just come out of one of the best chapters in your life. But with time, you will adjust once again, just as you did before when you were abroad. When you arrive on the Boston campus in the spring, you will attend a spring Husky 101 Orientation, which is an information session specifically for N.U.in students. Through this, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the resources available to you in Boston, acclimate to the Boston campus lifestyle, and connect with students from other N.U.in locations. I personally found my Husky 101 Orientation super helpful because it served as a reminder that I was not about to take on Boston alone. Instead, I walked onto the larger Boston campus knowing I had real support from friends and faculty I had developed relationships with while abroad.</image:title>

<image:title>Student Blogs - Why I Believe Early Decision is the Best Way to Apply to Northeastern University - 1. The Northeastern Difference</image:title>
<image:caption>Applying to a school ED has a lot of benefits. Mainly, you get a decision back early and you get to show that school that they are your number one choice. While these benefits are great, Northeastern offers even more. Before diving into Northeastern's ED benefits, it's worth comparing your choices. ED1 (November deadline) offers the most advantages at Northeastern, including all the financial perks discussed below. ED2 (January deadline) is still binding and demonstrates strong interest, and comes with the same benefits as ED1. Early Action (November deadline) is non-binding and lets you hear back sooner, but it doesn’t come with any of the special ED benefits. . Regular Decision offers the most flexibility but has the longest wait and no additional perks. Overall, if you think Northeastern is your school, ED1 maximizes your benefits. When applying ED to Northeastern, my application fee was waived and I was eligible to receive early group advising sessions, which were all great bonuses at the time Even though I had to submit my application early, the fee waiver made my application simple to submit and I got a great head start to Northeastern with the early group advising sessions. These advising sessions are a group meeting with advisors from Northeastern before you even meet your full time advisor. Overall the sessions helped me set up for success when it came to choosing courses during my first year at Northeastern and with applying to co-op.</image:caption>
